I. Prompts for motivation

What is one activity you know you must do regularly, regardless of the outcome? Have you ever shared what you’ve worked on with anyone in your life, or is there something holding you back from doing so?

Are you harboring any secret lifelong passions that you’ve always wanted to pursue but never got a chance to? What thoughts, emotions, and feelings come up when you come across someone completely immersed in what they love?

II. Thoughts for intention

It’s easy to take our creative projects and keep them to ourselves for whatever reason. Sometimes, we might not even be conscious of why we prefer to hide the things that light us up from other people in our lives. In my experience, this can happen when fear takes over, masking our desires with self-criticism and negativity. The hard truth is that while it takes courage to do the work you know you must, it also takes vulnerability; there could never be courage without vulnerability. And when you rise above the resistance to follow through on your purpose, you encourage others to do the same.

By sharing your passion, you connect with others. It might not be easy to spot, but the reality is, our actions create a chain reaction of positivity. There’s no denying that some people might simply not see the value in what you’re doing, but you can bet that even for just a tiny few, they absolutely do. Just knowing that can make a difference. Because who knows, maybe your willingness to be open is inspiring them to pursue their own goals and dreams. Maybe you’re helping those few small people rediscover the inner child they’ve been neglecting over their lives. We can never know the full impact we have on people, but it seems that even for those that the work speaks to, it matters, and that makes it worth it.

III. Ideas for preparation

One of the best ways to go about telling people about your passion is by choosing the right community. Find the kindred spirits who understand the need you feel to turn your dreams into reality. It gets easier to have deeper conversations with those who are not afraid to put themselves out there in the same way. These are the people who care enough to hear your whole story and why, since they are in the same boat and endeavoring to work toward their own version of self-actualization. In the end, it’s about relating to those who understand you most, and hopefully, this will lead to everyone supporting and energizing each other in the process.

Another approach that can help you talk more about your creativity is to consider different ways it could be of service. Think about how you can align your skills to a mission that can change the lives of others for the better. While this takes a lot of time and patience, the great thing is that the feedback you gain will help you move closer and closer toward what it is you’re aiming for. This allows you to brainstorm and think outside the box since the range of unique perspectives only enhances your creative thinking.

IV. Quotes for inspiration

― Nicholas Sparks, Dear John

― Roald Dahl, My Uncle Oswald
