I. Prompts for motivation
Can you remember the last time someone deliberately crossed your boundaries without any regard to your personal safety and well-being? How did you begin to navigate such a debilitating experience and violation of your privacy?
What advice would you give to a friend, family member, or loved one when it comes to moving past the disrespectful behavior of others? Are there any affirmations you find helpful in maintaining your sense of agency and self-worth?
II. Thoughts for intention
Despite any effort on your part to live by your values, challenge and controversy will always find you. In such difficult moments where you’re feeling most vulnerable, it’s easy for your worst inner critic to come back along with its harsh forms of negative self-talk. Hopefully, we can practice self-worth affirmations to remember our inherent value and unshakeable belief that we are deserving of respect, honesty, and love.
Nobody can ever know the intensity and depth of your personal triggers and struggles. Only you alone can know the full breadth of your story and how much you’ve put in to get to where you are today. Judgment and criticism are a given, especially from those who fail to understand you from a genuine, intimate place of transparency and reciprocal exchange. Thankfully, our self-worth remains undeniable regardless of what we’re dealing with; our existence alone is all we need to remember that fundamental truth.
III. Ideas for preparation
It’s important to understand the difference between self-esteem and self-worth. While the former relates to external sources like appearance, praise, and status, the latter is rooted in an internal knowing that you strengthen by honoring yourself. One way to mentally separate the two is by taking care to always recognize that you are bigger and greater than anything you do. Nothing you ever accomplish in your lifetime could ever capture your incomprehensible self-worth and gift to this world. No one can ever take that away from you.
Self-worth affirmations focused on prioritizing your growth and well-being can help you shift back to a healthy state of mind, especially if you feel that people are ignoring your boundaries. No matter who you’re dealing with, you should never feel that you must earn the right to protect your personal space and peace. Surrounding yourself with people who actually know you can do all the wonders to lift you back up to the regular vibrancy and energy of your natural outlook and lifestyle. In doing so, you can use this opportunity and treat it as a mental reset button.
IV. Quotes for inspiration
“As with most changes, the action comes first and the feeling comes later. So living a life in which you feel a sense of self-worth means making it a life practice. The work is never done. You never arrive. You do the work every day to live in love with unconditional self-acceptance.”
― Julie Smith, Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?
“I will not be “famous,””great.” I will go on adventuring, changing, opening my mind and my eyes, refusing to be stamped and stereotyped. The thing is to free one’s self: to let it find its dimensions, not be impeded.”
― Virginia Woolf, A Writer’s Diary
