I. Prompts for motivation
Do you ever notice yourself suffering from the grip of a scarcity mentality? In what areas of your life does it show up for you most, and how do you usually shake off a limited point of view?
Can you think of any specific ideas out there that might be contributing to this sense of lack and insufficiency? What choices are available to you right now that would allow you to incrementally flip the dominating narrative about your time, resources, and opportunities?
II. Thoughts for intention
It’s easy to get bogged down by all of the messages we might see that can lead us to comparing ourselves to others. It’s hardly our fault considering the forms of influence that can pressure us to adopt a win-lose attitude in all things. The problem is that when we’re not aware that we’re operating from a state of lack, we are also bringing fear into our decision-making. This can lead to negative experiences like toxic competition driven by envy, jealousy, or resentment.
The great thing about developing an abundance mindset is that it helps us practice discernment of our current situation and consider ways that it could change. This involves tapping into our curiosity and looking for alternatives, knowing that plenty of experiences could actually be transformed into multiple win-win scenarios than we might realize. In doing so, we can work from an enhanced sense of well-being while also unlocking greater creativity where we can see a range of possibilities.
III. Ideas for preparation
One of the best tools for cultivating abundance is through focusing on gratitude. The science behind it reveals that actively and intentionally shifting your attention redefines the lens of your perspective. This helps you positively rewire the brain and enjoy the feel-good chemicals it releases in response. We can put this into our routines by simply taking a few minutes to be thankful for what we have in our lives and noticing every single aspect, big or small, that deserves appreciation.
Another idea worth trying is to celebrate the wins of others. When we cheer for the people in our lives, we are spreading the kind of energy that invites this state of mind. It solidifies a generous spirit, countering the misconception that anybody’s progress blocks one’s own success. In reality, it is through connection and collaboration that we get closer to achieving our goals. No man is an island, and perhaps living by that truth holds the key to the overflowing options that abundance brings.
IV. Quotes for inspiration
“As long as we remain vigilant at building our internal abundance—an abundance of integrity, an abundance of forgiveness, an abundance of service, an abundance of love—then external lack is bound to be temporary.”
― Marianne Williamson, Everyday Grace
“When you are consistently in a state of gratitude, and aware of all the awesomeness that already exists, it, among many other things, makes it much easier for you to believe that there’s more awesomeness where that came from, and that this yet-to-be-manifested awesomeness is also available to you. You’ve received awesomeness before, so of course, you can receive awesomeness again. This is how gratitude strengthens your faith. And having strong faith is a major key in transforming your life.”
― Jen Sincero, You Are a Badass
